Those of you who have come alongside us for the United Way journey over the past 6 months or so know it’s been a very special type of journey so far. We started in September with a virtual kick-off event, really missing the opportunity to celebrate in person with many of you. But you’ve been faithfully patient and supportive every step of the way. You’ve been there as we’ve had to adapt each of our fundraising events throughout the year … from figuring out a virtual event platform, delivering workplace campaign presentations by Zoom, hosting an online basket raffle, moving in-person events from our usual venues to safer locations, and even figuring out our own version of online ordering, curbside pick-up and deliveries for our popular pancake and sausage day and Souper Bowl.
Our campaign season started in September at the Indiana fire station, with a virtual event that honored our county’s first responders - those that are our local heroes every day, and even more so during the COVID challenges we’ve had this past year. Doctors, nurses, volunteer firemen, police, and EMT joined us to help reveal our campaign goal of $555,555. Now, 6 months later, we just wrapped up this uniquely rewarding campaign season with virtual community campaign celebration. We are happy to share in recognizing the impact in Indiana County as we reflect on what our community’s generosity has enabled the United Way to do this year.
We thought it would be appropriate to wrap up this special year at a special location so we will be broadcasting the event live from the parking lot of Indiana High School, just one of the homes of our many Indiana County educational heroes. This gathering at the school is a way we could pay a humble tribute to all of our county’s educators and administrators who have heroically adapted the way they are able to teach our children during a global pandemic and we thank you for your hard work and dedication to improving the lives of our children in Indiana County.

2020 surely has been a special journey for many, but you all stepped up and joined together to support one another. You showed kindness and devotion to improving your community.
